The Gold Coast Suns will unveil their fourth debutant of the year, with the club’s top selection from last year’s National Draft MacAndrew set to feature against West Coast this weekend.
Andrew joined the Suns as the fifth overall pick in last year’s intake, venturing to the Queensland club from the Dandenong Stingrays after being one of the largest draft bolters of his class.
The 201cm tall teenager is capable of playing across all three lines of the field, and has flourished in the Suns’ VFL side throughout this season.
“This is honestly a dream come true, I still can’t believe it,” Andrew said.
“For Stuey to announce it in-front of the playing group was such an amazing feeling, all the team were jumping on top of me, it’s impossible to describe how good it felt.
“Since joining the club, the staff, players and our members have been so supportive of me and helping me to reach this point, I can’t thank them enough.”
He will line up for his maiden appearance at Metricon Stadium, with the Suns to enter Sunday’s clash as favourites, hoping to add a ninth win to their campaign.
Meanwhile, the GWS Giants have announced a debutant of their own for Round 20, with key defender Leek Ale earning his first call-up for the New South Wales side.
The rookie backman joined the Giants as the 15th overall pick in the 2021 National Draft from SANFL side Central District.
GWS confirmed Aleer’s inclusion for Saturday’s local derby against the Swans on Thursday, with the youngster surrounded by family when the club announced his debut.
When Leek Aleer was five years old he fled from war-torn South Sudan alongside his mother Tabitha and younger sister Agot.
