Ronald Kiandee didn’t make the cut

Incumbent Beluran MP Ronald Kiandee has not been nominated by his coalition to defend his seat which he has held for five terms.

The BN-Gabungan Rakyat Sabah pact has decided that BN’s Benedict Asmat will be fielded in Beluran instead.

This meant that all five MPs who defected from Umno to Bersatu between 2019 and 2020 will not be fielded under the BN-GRS pact.

The four others are Azizah Mohd Dun (Beaufort), Zakaria Mohd Edris (Libaran), Abdul Rahim Bakri (Kudat), and Yamani Hafez Musa (Sipitang).

Ronald (above) is one of two Bersatu vice-presidents who are not being fielded for the upcoming election. The other was Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen, who quit the party in a huff after it was clear he had to sit out.

Ronald, 61, was best known for being the deputy speaker of the Dewan Rakyat from 2008 until 2018.

Meanwhile, Sabah BN has switched its candidate for the Kalabakan parliamentary constituency.

Initially, Sabah BN had named Kalabakan Umno Youth chief Aslan Fadli Samsul Alang as the candidate.

Last night, a replacement was announced in the form of Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy, who is currently the Tanjung Batu assemblyperson.
