Michael Oh-Lau appointed CEO of Maybank Investment Banking Group
KUALA LUMPUR: Maybank has tapped Michael Oh-Lau Chong Jin to succeed Datuk Ami Moris as the CEO of Maybank investment Banking Group.
The appointment, which will be effective Dec 1, 2022, will see Oh-Lau helm all of the group’s investment banking, advisory, research, broking and prime broking services in Malaysia and across Maybank Investment’s regional platform.
According to the bank, his recent leadership roles in Maybank included managing director, regional head of debt markets at Maybank Investment Bank and managing director, corporate banking for group global banking, a role he has held for the last six years.
In a press statement, Maybank group president and CEO Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli called Oh-Lau a “true-blue Maybanker” who embraces the purpose of humanising financial services and has in-depth experience in multiple fields of global and investment banking.
Outgoing CEO Ami, who held the top post in Maybank Investment since late 2018, will be retiring from the company.
“I would like to thank Datuk Ami Moris for her leadership, dedication and countless contributions to the evolution and development of MIBG, including the latest refining of the M25+ strategy for MIBG.
“She was instrumental in creating a regionally recognised investment banking franchise that has received many accolades including Malaysia’s Best Investment Bank and Best Broker in Southeast Asia,” said Khairussaleh.
He also acknowledged her role in driving Maybank Investment’s sustainability agenda while advocating for diversity and inclusion at the board and C-suite levels as chair of the 30% Club Malaysia.
