Guillem Balague sends clear transfer message to Reds about Kylian Mbappe
The Spanish football expert spoke about Mbappe wanting to leave PSG and how his ‘ego has gone wrong’, but made it clear that Liverpool won’t be his next destination.
Whilst there is strong talk about Mbappe wanting out in January, Balague thinks that move will most likely come about next summer.
During the summer transfer window, the 23-year-old signed a big-money contract at the Ligue 1 champions, despite strong interest from Real Madrid and talk that he was going to join the European champions on a free-transfer.
But it seems as though, it’s not just money the World Cup winner is being offered or bonuses, but certain promises, which now haven’t been met.
That’s the crazy lengths PSG went to try and keep one of the world’s best footballers on board, as Balague shared his thoughts on that situation.
“Stories come out in the media, but the club don’t know anything about his future,” said Balague. “He hasn’t told them anything. His intention is to leave PSG, at some point.
“Is he happy? No, he isn’t completely happy. He said it when he went to the national side that he prefers to play the way he plays in the national side, with more space for him. At PSG, he’s got to be a number nine, with Neymar and Messi feeding him. That doesn’t please him at all.
“It seems to me an ego gone wrong. But it also seems a strategy. He wants to be out. He has a contract until 2024. He has another year after that. But it has to be agreed by both parties. His thought process will be, when the World Cup is over, okay finish this season with PSG and see if I can go somewhere else.
“See if Madrid accepts his arrival. I think they are ready for it. Liverpool don’t have the kind of money that’s required. Remember, he got 150 million himself, he won’t get all of that if he leaves, but that’s just for himself, a signing-on fee. Plus the wages. Plus the transfer fee. It’s a bit too much for Liverpool.”
MBAPPE SHOULD HAVE LEFT IN THE SUMMER
There is no doubt that everyone and anyone associated with Liverpool will want a player of Mbappe’s ilk on their books, if he can throw his ego out of the window that is.
But, it’s probably no surprise to the fans that they can’t afford him or won’t be willing to put the money needed on the table for the player.
At the end of the day, a certain oil-backed club in the Premier League or the previously-owned Russian club can do so, but not those at Anfield.
Especially Chelsea, with their new ownership under Todd Boehly, it will be interesting to see if they try to knock on that door, even if Mbappe’s dream move would be to Real Madrid.
