GE15: E-sports stadium, wedding aid among election treats in Perak Perikatan manifesto

IPOH: Couples getting married for the first time will receive aid as part of Perak Perikatan Nasional’s manifesto, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

The incumbent Tambun MP, who is defending his seat, said this would ease the financial burden of such couples in the state.

“But it is for the first marriage only. Besides that, we also hope to provide land to those who have yet to own houses in the state to build houses according to their capacity.

“There are about 50,000 families, squatters and those who don’t have houses in the state that will benefit from this plan if we form the state government,” said Ahmad Faizal, who is also the state’s Perikatan chairman, in his speech when announcing the manifesto at a hotel here Thursday (Nov 17).

The Bersatu deputy president said the state Perikatan has come up with five main core elements in its manifesto, which include education, social, women, infrastructure and environment sustainability.

He said vouchers worth RM1,000 would be provided to students for the purchase of laptops or tablets.

“Besides that, to encourage a reading culture, we will also provide vouchers to students to buy books.

“The education of the disabled will not be neglected, where basic facilities, and learning infrastructure will be set up.

“Women will not be forgotten, where more entrepreneurship opportunities will be enhanced, and those suffering from domestic violence will be provided all the help required including specific shelter homes,” he added.

Ahmad Faizal said the commitment to plant another 10 million trees would be carried out for the next 10 years.

“We will also establish an e-sports stadium, and an artificial intelligence centre in Perak for the youths,” he said in a press conference.

Asked why the manifesto was announced two days before polling, Ahmad Faizal said this was because he and his team during their walkabouts and campaigns received a lot of input from the ground.

He said this should not be seen as the party’s desperate move, but instead as fine-tuning measures for a better and inclusive manifesto.

“We are merely improving the manifesto according to the needs of the people.

“Also, what is announced in the manifesto are not ‘sweets’ simply thrown to the people, because we are committed in doing what is announced if given the mandate,” he said.
