GE15: Controversial MIC candidates dropped from list, says party president

SUNGAI SIPUT: Candidates from MIC who have controversies surrounding them have been dropped, says Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran (pic).

The MIC president said this was to ensure the party has better chances in winning during the 15th General Election (GE15).

“The candidates have been approved by the party.

“They are working and coordinating the respective areas,” he told reporters at the Tun Samy Vellu Convention Centre here Tuesday (Oct 25).

“Their names will be announced by Barisan Nasional president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi soon,” he added.

Polling day for GE15 is on Nov 19, with Nomination Day on Nov 5 and early polls on Nov 15.

Vigneswaran also said MIC would be realistic in GE15 and had not simply requested to contest for more seats.

“Of course, we will continue to retain our traditional seats and make some requests to contest for more seats.

“But the requests made are reasonable, only at the constituencies that we can win,” he said, adding that MIC hopes to have an Indian representative in the state government.

On Oct 24, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said the party is prepared to change seats with other Barisan component parties to have a better chance of winning the constituencies.
