Five-day break for students to cast votes

PUTRAJAYA: A five-day break from Nov 17 will be granted to students from institutes of higher learning to allow them to travel to their voting districts to cast their ballot in the 15th General Election.

This was confirmed by Higher Education director-general Datuk Dr Husaini Omar after a circular bearing his signature related to the break for tertiary education students was circulated on social media yesterday.

He said the letter was distributed to all public and private higher education institutes including the polytechnic and community college departments, for further action.

“The letter is distributed to all higher education institutes to allow students a break to vote in line with Undi18. A press statement will be released later,” he said, reported Bernama.

According to the letter dated Oct 21, the break will start on Nov 17 and end on Nov 21.

This will allow students sufficient time to travel to their voting districts to cast their ballots.

The letter also said that all classes and student activities would be postponed during the period.

The Election Commission has set Nov 19 as the voting date, with nominations slated to take place on Nov 5.
