Covid-19: Another 2,618 new cases, four deaths
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 2,618 new Covid-19 infections on Saturday (Oct 22), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,880,005 since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry’s KKMNow portal reported that 2,611 cases were locally transmitted while there were seven imported cases.
The KKMNow portal also reported that there were 1,841 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,816,262 since the pandemic began.
It also reported that there were 27,299 active infections as of 11.59pm on Saturday with 26,186, or 95.9%, observing home quarantine.
A total of 1,066 individuals, or 3.9% of active cases, were being treated in hospitals throughout the country, with 47, or 0.17%, admitted to intensive care units (ICU).
Of those in ICUs, 29 are unventilated while 18 require ventilator support.
The portal also reported that Malaysia’s ICU utilisation rate stood at 63.3%.
There were four deaths due to Covid-19, including two classified as brought in dead.
This brings the total number of fatalities due to Covid-19 in Malaysia to 36,444 since the pandemic began.
