Couple and toddler killed in NSE crash were on way to family gathering, says relative

MELAKA: A couple and their one-year-old son were on their way to Port Dickson for a family gathering when they were killed in an accident at KM216 of the North-South Expressway.

A relative said the family was waiting for them at a resort here when they received news that the victims – Muhammad Nazirul Syafiq Azmi and his wife Zubaidah Abd Rajak, both 28, and their son Muhammad Rizqi Muhammad Nazrul Syafiq – were involved in an accident at about 11am on Friday (Oct 28).

Zubaidah’s father Abd Rajak Sakiman, 66, said his daughter was the sixth child out of seven.

“I started calling my son-in-law and daughter when I arrived at Port Dickson but the calls went unanswered.

“My eldest daughter had met them (the deceased) at the Skudai toll plaza in the morning and they were supposed to have arrived in Port Dickson by noon,” he said when met here on Friday.

He said all the other family members gathered at Port Dickson were eagerly waiting for the three before they were informed of the accident.

Abd Rajak said he only knew that all three had been killed upon arriving at the Alor Gajah Hospital morgue.

“I accept this tragedy as fate,” he said.

Abd Rajak said he last met his daughter during a Hari Raya family gathering in Desaru, Johor, in June.

“My daughter often calls to find out about our health.

“Both my wife and I have not been feeling well lately,” he added.

On Friday, the three victims were killed instantly after their car collided with a lorry that was exiting the Ayer Keroh rest and recreational area at about 11am.

The 43-year-old driver of the lorry escaped unhurt.
