BN’s opponents fabricated letter of pledge, claims Zahid
PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi claimed that Barisan Nasional’s rivals had fabricated the letter of pledge as part of a purported slander campaign against the coalition.
The Barisan chairman said Barisan’s opponents were afraid of their own shadows and were desperate to win.
He said this after a supposed letter pledging to back him for prime minister went viral recently.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, said Barisan’s rivals were now afraid of retaliation.
“We believe they are now panicking as they begin overthinking the consequences of their actions.
“They are afraid that ‘what you give, you will get back’,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday (Nov 3).
The supposed pledge, allegedly signed by Umno bigwigs and candidates, had promised to give major Cabinet posts and political appointments to Umno MPs, as well as dropping court charges involving top party leaders.
Umno members have since denied the viral letter of pledge stating that they had only signed letters pledging their support for Barisan, and not the chairman.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had announced it would begin its probe into the controversial issue on Thursday.
