ARK: Equus – How to Tame, Feed and Breed!

Deutsch English

The Equus is an ideal entry-level mount in ARK: Survival Evolved, which you can ride with or without a saddle. However, taming it is more difficult as you have to feed it, but it will instinctively flee at every little thing. Tamed and saddled, you have a mobile mortar and pestle station.

Find out everything you need to know about the horse in our guide to the Equus. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him, and breed offspring too.

This is the Equus in ARK: Survival Evolved

Appearance: The Equus looks like a cross between a wild horse and a zebra, and is about the same size. Depending on the variant, it can be found in different colors and patterns.

Wild: Similar to the Gallimimus, the Equus is a flight animal, which will flee at the slightest sign of danger and can also sprint away quite quickly. It doesn’t attack, even when attacked. You can usually see it grazing or walking around.

Domesticated: Domesticated, the Equus is a fast mount that you can ride with or without a saddle. The saddle offers an interesting perk: it’s a mobile mortar station, meaning you can craft anesthetics, primer powder, and whatever you’ve unlocked for the mortar at any time.

How to tame the Equus in ARK

The Equus is passively tamed with Kibble, Berries, or Carrots. To do this, put the food you have selected in your inventory slot on the far right and put it on the ghillie suit.

If you have found an Equus that you want to tame, you must slowly approach it from behind. It must not be startled by seeing you, otherwise it will immediately flee. Get so close to it that the “Feed to Tame” command appears, which you execute. Depending on the level and taming settings, you may have to repeat the process several times.

How to breed the Equus in ARK

This is how you prepare the breeding: If you have a male and female specimen, you build an enclosure that is large enough at best. Put both dinos in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.

The breeding interval of an Equus is 18 to 48 hours.

After successful mating, if you play on default settings, the female Equus will be pregnant for about 8 hours. After these 8 hours, you can welcome the little Equus foal into the world. As a baby, it takes up another 4.5 hours of your attention, during which you have to keep putting food in its inventory. Pay attention to the embossing intervals every 8 hours to tickle the greatest potential out of the baby.

Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed on its own. The entire ripening time lasts about 1 day and 22.5 hours.
