Anwar demands RM5mil in damages, apology from Perak PAS chief over LGBT claims
KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic) is demanding an apology from Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria over the latter’s remark at a ceramah that claimed Anwar would promote an LGBT agenda.
In a letter of demand (LOD) sent via law firm SN Nair & Partners on Tuesday (Nov 8), Anwar is also demanding RM5mil in damages for tarnishing his reputation, along with legal costs.
The LOD said the claims by Razman were “outlandish and preposterous”.
“This is calculated to maliciously disparage his reputation in the midst of the general election campaign”, it said.
Razman’s allegations were said to have been posted on his Facebook account and published by Malaysiakini.
This, Anwar said, had caused serious damage to his reputation as Razman’s Facebook post had attracted more than 43,500 views, 1,000 comments, 3,100 reactions and 256 shares as at the time the LOD was sent.
Anwar said Razman’s remarks had meant or implied that Anwar had abused his powers as an MP, was deceitful, a traitor, a hypocrite and not a good Muslim, among others.
He wants Razman to make an unconditional apology and a written assurance that he will not repeat the allegations in any form, failing which legal action will be taken against Razman.
The LOD stated that Razman has seven days to respond.
