Transport firm’s permit suspended after accident that killed unborn baby

PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) have been told to act on a transportation company and a lorry driver over an accident that resulted in the death of an unborn baby and severe injuries to the expectant mother.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said in a Facebook post Tuesday (Dec 13) that the company’s operating permit will be suspended until an audit on all its lorries has been conducted and approved.

“I will not compromise with the driver and the company… (which have) endangered the public on the road,” he said.

Loke also expressed his sympathy to the family of the victim who had lost their firstborn, expected to be born in a few weeks.

In the incident, a pregnant woman was severely injured when the car she was in was driven by her husband involved in an accident at Grik, Perak. Dashcam footage of the incident indicated that it occurred on Oct 29.

In the incident, the woman, who was 34 weeks pregnant, lost her unborn child after an apparently overloaded lorry sped past her car, dropping some of its cargo on her vehicle and sending it off the road.

The victim’s husband expressed his outrage over the incident on the Dashcam Owners Malaysia Facebook page.

It was learnt that other vehicles were also affected.
