Fate of Zuraida, other suspended PBM leaders to be decided on Dec 27, says Sng
PETALING JAYA: Parti Bangsa Malaysia’s disciplinary committee will decide on the fate of the suspended members including several supreme council members tomorrow (Dec 27), says Datuk Larry Sng(pic).
A total of 15 members were suspended including Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin. The suspension was lifted for two members following a meeting on Dec 17 and their positions have been reinstated.
“13 of the supreme council members were issued a show cause letter last Monday and given a week to reply in writing in response to it. As of today none has done so yet, although some have acknowledged having received it,” said the party’s president.
“Today is the deadline for the reply and tomorrow the disciplinary committee will discuss and make a public statement on this matter,” he said when contacted.
Sng said if the suspended members do not reply to the letter, the disciplinary committee reserves the right to discipline those members according to what they deemed fit, including the possibility of expulsion.
“Their non-attendance was not the reason for their show cause letter,” he added.
Earlier, a source told The Star that the suspended members had no plans to respond to the show cause letters.
A leadership tussle broke out between Sng and Zuraida in October over the president post.
Sng insists that he was still the president, despite another faction within the party saying that it was decided in the party congress in October that Zuraida should take over the leadership.
“There was no resignation on my part as president nor was there any decision to remove me as such during the AGM so my position in the party remains status quo.
“However, since then Zuraida and those aligned to her have caused confusion and acted against the interest of the party and its members. Because of this, their membership and positions have been suspended until decided otherwise by the disciplinary committee,” the Julau MP added.
Sng also went on to claim that Zuraida is just an ordinary member.
“She is just an ordinary member who is currently suspended. The position of president designate is not an official position in the party’s constitution,” he said while claiming that the other 12 were supreme council members.
Sng had told a press conference on June 9 that Zuraida would serve as the president-designate for PBM, after she joined the party following her departure from Bersatu.
The list of suspended supreme council members included the likes of deputy president Haniza Mohamad Talha, vice-presidents Rahimah Majid, Sathiskumar Govindaraju and Muhammad Saiful Bahari Sahari; Youth chief Na’im Brundage; Women’s chief Dr Daroyah Alwi, among others.
